oldies but goodies

the corolla rideee, the story

SO its been 4 weeks now with the corollaaa.. If you didnt know I built a fc with a fresh rebuild and traded it for a corolla gts ae86 hatch. So far the corolla has been a love and hate relationship. I havent given my fc much attention because of the corolla. This is the story of my corolla experience. The car is currently for sale for $3600, which is DIRT cheap for a true gts and rebuilt 16/20 motor.

It has abunch of goodies, such as
16/20 motor
cams,
exhaust
ACT stage 3 unsprung clutch
GTS everything
test pipe
tokico
kyb trd springs
swift springs
trd sway bar
momo steering wheel
nrg quick release
supra wheels
trd spark wires
and more..

At first It had hesitations, found out it was low fuel pressure. Installed new fuel filter, dropped the gas tank and found teh fuel pump fuel hose was loose. Fixed that and the car ran real strong. The idle was funky, I guess because of the cams. I adjusted the afm spring a bit, and now its perfect.

Then took it to inland drift on the day of Mikes birthday, and BROKE a gts axle -_-. I didnt hit anything, it snapped in half middrift after the third clutch kickaround the bank. I was stranded, like as if the tranny blew. I found out that the driveshaft was stills pinning in gear, and that it was indeed the LSD on onehweel drive slip. My friend with triple A towed me home..

The next day I dropped the diff. Suprisingly, it was VERY VERY easy to do so. Unlike fcs, you hav eto drop the whole subframe. For the corolla, you pull the side axles out and unbolt the driveshaft and a bunch of 12mm diff casing bolts.
I found the broken side axle jammed in the lsd. I took the diff to Lucky 7, and used the impact gun to take the lsd apart. Found out that everything inside was fucked in the asshole.

I ended up gutting the lsd, and welding it shut because the lsd was blown anyways and might as well turn it into awelded since club4ag guys are selling open diffs for like $150. There is no way ever, ever, ever that I would pay that much for a open diff.
Finally got an axle for an arm and a leg, literally.. These parts aint cheap and easy to find at all.

Everything was good, welded setup felt great It was easy to do dohnuts and figure 8s.

Took it to admas GRip night. I was averaging 51- 52 seconds lap times on BALD tires with welded diff. Literally grifting[drift grip]. The record lap time there was 45 seconds. SO I am not far behind at all. All It needs is fresh R compound tires.. I believe it has great potential.. This car is really a man's driver car. If you dont drive it right, you will spin. The steering wheel fight back alot and literally you have to man this car gripping. Steering into corners was very nice, and nimble. The car braked excellent, and with non abs made me even happier to lock up all 4 tires into a corner after the straightaway and into a grift.[grip/drift]. I was catching up to some cars in front of me.
I drove it like I stole it hahhahaha.
Next weekend..

Took it to adams Kiott free track drift day, and failed so hard.
Full lock has no angle.. ebrake doesnt work either.. At the end of the night I had a few good drifts, but overall the corolla is the hardest car I ever drifted. Its probably just not setup right for drift. Or maybe its because Im still on bald rear tires. IDK..

I guess I need a manual rack to go with my Power steering knuckles for more angle as I read on club 4ag. I also will need front camber plates, and roll center adjusters for bump steer correctment.

Another normal day then suddenly...
Randomly driving on the freeway out of nowhere like boooommmm! I hear clunking, and loud whining. Sounded like my ring and pinnion was missing some teeth, or something. Barely made it home, limping with loud noise and fluid dripping with my hazard lights on. The next day I took the diff apart and found that the pinnion ring gear had massive endplay.[driveshaft side]
Then the front diff bolt was loose, and I thought I chipped the pinnion gear.. Shit was okay after I took it apart, cleaned, greased, resealed and tightened everything.

This morning I was going to school dead tired on 3 hours of sleep.. The night before I had hung out with drifters LOL. Me, Vinh, Karl, Jxn 626 driftmaster, John chow& his gf, charlie, ate dinner for some pinnan chicken? Then played xbox 360 forza. Karl built me a gold fc with 3 rotor. I realzied I had class the following day and it was getting late. Vinh took me home.

I woke up at 7am[ 4 hours of sleep] got up and into the corolla with my eyes half open. Got on the 60 west and yeah just cruising 5th around 4,000 rpm 80 mph...
I saw a 240 s14 white carbon hood with huge fmic creeping up behind me. Then he was on my ass. So I imediately like woke up a bit, and kinda went from 5th gear, to 4th, to third rev matching all gears like a boss and dropped all hammers all the way from 3rd, 4th to the top of 5th past 110 mph, I slowed down with my hazards and waited for him and we did a 4th gear pull and it was pretty DEAD even.. The rest was all cat and mouse with me in front with some wangan driving.
He pulled off the on ramp[where I was suppose to exit anyways] to the street and we got to a stop light, he reved and I looked at him and smiled, and we both launched the car 1-4th gear.I spun my wheels abit too much and that gave him a 1 car lead.I clutch kicked a few during second gear and caught up, it was DEAD even until 3rd. I kept clucth kicking like 5 x per gear. I was about one car length in front now, and I hit a bump and my exhaust hanger snapped --__---..
Yee now im shooting sparks behind my car with my exhaust dragging.

He flashes me to pull over, I found a wide open parking lot to go into. Luckily I had some zipties.. I guess he was a mexican fellow, looked pretty friendly. He came out of his 240.I was hoping he wasnt any gangster or anything lol. He had some touke stickers on his car, so he was indded a fellow skidracer.
He was like " WHY IS your COROllaa so FASTTT????" I said Idkk... "What motor is in it?" he asked.
I said "4ag stock" lol[ its really a 16/20 with cams] I asked him if he had Sr, but no, he had RB 25!!! wtf.. how in the world can my corolla keep up and even like beat him on the fwy in the beginning???? I told him wtf, how did my corolla even race with you if you have RB25.
He said he just did the swap recently. He quickly popped his hood to show me. Indeed it was a rb 25. That wide silver upper intake manifold can never be mistaken for anything else. I figure it probably still has a few bugs here and there which caused it to not run to its fullest. He is running astock rb 25 skyline ecu. I personally think he should go standalone and dyno tune.

How can a mere 4ag, win a rb 25 with fmic, turbo, and full exhaust..

He said he's seen my car for sale on zilvia. I asked him to bump my thread and put some good words for it lol!

WTF... I still can believe it till now..

I knew my corolla is fast, but wtf.... I Guess I still can rightfully say I beat a rb 25 with a corolla lol.

I still need to sell this car, to build my fc to FD Specs... But, I really like this car now... Its fast...
I really need to dyno this corolla..

Well if this car sells, then thats all ... The fc will be back.

But fo rnow , this was the 4 week corolla story...

what a morning....

I finally gathered all the motor parts. Today I began cleaning the rotors, irons and housings. Ported the intermediate iron, and housings. The exhaust ports are HUGE...
Pics to come..
